<![CDATA[Wool Creations-Needle Felted Soft Sculptures - Blog]]>Wed, 10 Mar 2010 13:49:08 -0800Weebly<![CDATA[Beware of Kits]]>Mon, 08 Mar 2010 03:16:20 -0800http://www.woolcreations.net/1/post/2010/03/beware-of-kits.htmlI don't think I will ever understand why someone sells a kit with incomplete information. While trying to hide their secret methods they are actually cheating the customer - you!

I have had kits that leave out the important information. When someone orders a kit it is to make, as close as possible, the picture on the kit. Not possible if you don't have all the techniques used to create the original. So, just be careful when you buy a kit. Be prepared to create something not quite like the picture on the front. Anyone else have this type of experience?

<![CDATA[St. Patrick's Day]]>Sun, 07 Mar 2010 06:56:29 -0800http://www.woolcreations.net/1/post/2010/03/st-patricks-day.htmlEveryone is Irish on Saint Patrick's Day, or so they say. I do get a bit of the brogue on that day, but who's to say?

I created a doll for this day. What else but a Leprechaun? A lot of time goes into doll creation. A great number of parts are created and then assembled for the finished product. So, what do you think?

<![CDATA[Dalmation Wool Soft Sculpture]]>Mon, 22 Feb 2010 07:22:56 -0800http://www.woolcreations.net/1/post/2010/02/dalmation-wool-soft-sculpture.htmlI just finished the last black spot on this cute little sculpture. This is Rufus. He is all wool. Mostly Corriedale wool, but he also has Merino wool which I use for the details.

I do a really unusual internal structure to the neck so it is entirely movable with no danger of dislodging it. It will return to the original position by itself.

I always enjoy sculpting animals, especially the babies of a species. Just too cute for words. A short break then onto the next piece.

I will be in the August edition of Better Homes and Gardens Holiday Craft Magazine and I getting really excited about that. I have everything in to the magazine so it is all coming together. I can't wait to see it.

If you like this little Dalmation leave a comment. I always appreciate hearing the thoughts of other artists.

<![CDATA[Baby Its cold]]>Wed, 10 Feb 2010 02:42:04 -0800http://www.woolcreations.net/1/post/2010/02/baby-its-cold.htmlJust finished my Polar Bear for my wild life series. Sadly, thanks to pollution, the only place we will see some of these animals is in zoos.

My fully furred bear was chosen to be in a treasury on Etsy. Thanks for that honor. Take a peek. Many beautiful, wild items. And now for a picture of my bear:

<![CDATA[Meet Mojo]]>Mon, 08 Feb 2010 12:17:34 -0800http://www.woolcreations.net/1/post/2010/02/post-title-click-and-type-to-edit3.htmlToday Etsy picked one of my soft sculptures for the front page. This is considered quite an honor which is why I mention it in my blog.

My little, long -haired dog, Mojo, won the honor. The picture of the page is on the Awards page. Here is a picture of my sculpture that was honored:

<![CDATA[Time and Products]]>Sat, 07 Nov 2009 05:58:57 -0800http://www.woolcreations.net/1/post/2009/11/time-and-products.htmlThere always seems to be enough time to get everything done, but I find it a struggle every year. So, I have to set some priorities and do the most important first. That would be increasing my product list in my Etsy shop.

With that said I am working on an Alpaca. I'm up to adding the fur and I am using an alpaca fiber because that seems right. Have to keep it authentic. This is a very soft, white fiber with a bit of Merino added. So far all is going well.

I will post his picture when he is done. I do assign gender to my pieces. It helps me work on the piece to know age, sex, and any other characteristic.

What is everyone else working on?]]>
<![CDATA[Time For Holiday Crafting]]>Wed, 28 Oct 2009 03:19:27 -0800http://www.woolcreations.net/1/post/2009/10/time-for-holiday-crafting.htmlThe holidays are just around the corner and I have been staying very busy. I've sold 27 pumpkins and an ornament on my etsy site. I think I can now make pumpkins in my sleep.

Ornaments are a fun project and designs are limited only by the imagination. I think I like snow flakes the best on a very bright background. What has everyone else been making for the holidays?

<![CDATA[Time To Update]]>Sat, 18 Jul 2009 04:15:39 -0800http://www.woolcreations.net/1/post/2009/07/post-title-click-and-type-to-edit2.htmlI can see I'm in need of a serious updating. I must learn to run faster to get it all done. I pick up a felting needle and I'm lost.
Here is one of my more recent creations. Everytime I look at this little sleeping kitten I smile. I keep waiting for it to purr. I have to say this is one of my favorites. Gives a sense of peace just looking at it.
I'm now working on a new kitten that will have a plush fur coat. I always start on the head first. Just incase I'm not too pleased with the results. Then I haven't wasted time creating a body.
Note to self-stick to the schedule and get it all done!!

<![CDATA[Time Flies]]>Fri, 26 Jun 2009 03:24:00 -0800http://www.woolcreations.net/1/post/2009/06/time-flies.htmlI am finding it difficult to find the time I need to work on my sculptures. I think it's a summer thing. Every time I have a plan, it changes. It seems everyone visits during the summer. Could be because I'm close to the Jersey shore.

Well, no visitors and no excuses today. My little Cairn Terrier needs more than the ears and eyes I've added since the last post. I'm hoping to get the body done today. I always make the head first. That way, if I don't like the way it came out I haven't wasted time on the body. See, a plan!!

<![CDATA[Latest Project]]>Mon, 22 Jun 2009 06:23:04 -0800http://www.woolcreations.net/1/post/2009/06/latest-project.htmlI am currently working on doing a soft sculpture of my best friend. Well, one of them. I have wanted to create a sculpture of "Bailey" for some time but always seem involved in another project that needs to be finished.

No more excuses! Bailey, a Cairn Terrier, is taking shape and should be finished in a few days. Then it's on to my other "best friend", Jesse. A Westie with an attitude.

I've been saving Bailey's fur when I brush him so this sculpture will actually have his fur incorporated with the wool. I will have him with me always!

He is a red brindle with a black mask so I have had to do some serious color mixing to get his coat as accurate as possible. Not possible to use all dog fur but I should be able to create a nice mixture so this sculpture will have special meaning to me.

I'm grateful the Westie is all white!
